City of Milwaukee Mural Arts Program & The Mural Mile
"It all begins with one brushstroke—the spark that ignites change. A single brushstroke that causes a ripple effect and transforms our city and the lives of those who live here.

Murals are more than just paint on walls. They create community, inspire individuals, revitalize neighborhoods and give hope. They tell the story of our city and give voice to its people, its cultures, its history and traditions. At Mural Arts, it is our mission to paint it forward—to help the force of life triumph in every neighborhood of our city. "-http://www.muralarts.org/getinvolved/gift.php

Why the arts?

Hip Hop is more than music...
... it goes beyond dance and sounds, it is about culture, history and skills. It was born of the same societal ills we see youth facing today; lack of jobs and economic opportunities, violence in our neighborhoods and at home, broken families, gangs, under funded schools and lack of community resources.

Hip Hop is a tool and a culture in itself that allows for positive change in one’s life and promotes the true meaning of “community”. Few social movements have been as effective as uniting cultures as Hip Hop has been for over 30 years.

We explore the cultural and historical ties of the elements; DJ, BBoy, MC, Graffiti, Knowledge through interactive workshops, events, lectures, projects and classes.
