TRUE Skool hosted a workshop with Professor Griff of Public Enemy on Friday June 25th.

TRUE Skool hosted a workshop with Professor Griff titled “PSYCHOLOGICAL COVERT WAR ON HIP HOP”. This workshop provided the audience with insight and a fundamental understanding of the inner workings of the music industry, particularly as it pertains to the psychological manipulation of hip hop music, in order to ultimately raise the consciousness level of the people via hip hop music and culture. This workshop is solution oriented as each area explored seeks to identify means by which to counteract the mind control mechanisms of the culture bandits.

TRUE Skool presented a live Breakdancing Battle, live Bucket Band that mixed sounds with Jordan "DJ Madhatter" Lee from 88.9 RadioMilwaukee. Also, Live Graffiti Art by Eliot Patterson, who dedicated his "Street Scene" piece to Haiti.

TRUE Skool presented a live breakdancing battle, a live bucket band that mixed sounds with Jordan "DJ Madhatter" Lee from 88.9 RadioMilwaukee and a live "Milwaukee Street Scene" Mural by TRUE Skool's Urban Art Students.

Urban Arts Instructor, Jasmine Barmore, and TRUE Skool student, Miguel Lewis, had their "Milwaukee Street Scene" photographs on display.

2009 Canvass Project & Gallery Night event
10 youth were selected to learn how to use spray paint and other mediums to create custom 40" X 60" canvasses over a 12 week period. In addition to learning how to paint on canvass, participants were required to complete 10 hours of community service, not miss more than 2 classes and organize and host the Annual Gallery Night event in November 2009. If they completed these requirements they earned a $200 stipend and sold their artwork at the Gallery Night event teaching young people that it literally pays to do something positive!!

TRUE Skool partnered with the Milwaukee Art Museum to bring TRUE Skool's unique programming and arts to their MAM After Dark Series. TRUE Skool, along with local artists and Milwaukee's own breakdancing super crew, Motion Disorderz, provided live art and breakdancing at the Art Museum on January 16th 2009 with over 1,000 people in attendance & May 15th, 2009 with 1,400 people in attendance!

TRUE Skool hosted a workshop on Hip Hop's Multicultural Influence with special guests, Elvis Thao, recently seen in the movie "Gran Torino" along with Minnesota based Hip Hop/Spoken Word artist Tou Saiko Lee. Both artists/activists/actors shared their experiences with Hip Hop culture and how they use their love for their culture to inspire change in youth and in their communities.

TRUE Skool hosted a DJ workshop with Legendary DJ Wolf-D, air-personality and mix-show DJ for V100.7 and tour DJ for hip-hop legends Kool Mo Dee and The Treacherous Three, on Saturday March 21st. Check back soon for the next DJ workshop!

TRUE Skool displayed work from various local and national Graffiti artists at Pyramax Bank located at 318 N. Water Street
during the Historic 3rd Ward's Gallery Night held April 20th and 21st. Artwork remained on display until June 2007.
Artists include: POOH BEAR, From the Soul, E.White, Starks, F.W. Kaems, AND, Alex Solis, COPE2, T-KID, KET, Quetzal, and XMEN.

11.30 T.R.U.E. Skool made a presentation about our organization and Graffiti Initiative and displayed Graffiti Art from our 3rd Annual Block Party this past summer at the Sociocultural Department's Event at UW-Milwaukee.

Click here for June & July's event. TRUE Skool was at Summerfest for 11 days creating live origianl artwork by local and international graffiti artists as well as performing on the Children's Stage daily and in the Sports arena.

T.R.U.E. Skool presents at UW-Milwaukee's Common Ground Conference January 27th. The Common Ground Conference is a one-day community/university event to be held on the UW-Milwaukee campus that will address building coalitions against racism and priviledge in greater Milwaukee. T.R.U.E. Skool presents on how we use Hip Hop to address and find solutions for these issues.

October

T.R.U.E. Skool attended E*Vision, a Youth Sustainability Conference, in Santa Fe, NM Oct. 7th & 8th, 2005. We discussed what role Hip Hop plays in the community when it comes to sustainability. T.R.U.E. Skool conducted a workshop on Hip Hop as a Social Movement and worked with New Mexican teens to create action plans for change. T.R.U.E. Skool conducted "Graffiti as an Art" workshop at a Milwaukee Public School, West Side Academy School, for 7th graders. Thanks to Mrs. Dolphin and her English classes for sharing their time with us!
