Urban Arts Program

TRUE Skool offers instruction in art, music and dance using curriculum in line with Milwaukee Public School's Learning Targets for the Arts/Music/Dance and National and State Standards for Arts Education. Our Urban Arts Program offers project-based sessions with a focus on community service, social justice and entrepreneurialism and each session ends in a performance, gallery, or other exhibit of skills learned. Participants are evaluated through pre and post surveys, peer to peer/instructor evaluations, completion of projects and performances/exhibits. Youth participants explore being professional artists and musicians by learning how to create and implement time based projects, reading contracts, project planning, budgets, and other skills necessary to become entrepreneurs and find careers in these fields. They also learn about the various careers in the arts and music by our partnerships with local companies such as Cramer-Krasselt, OnRamp,  MIAD, WMSE and RadioMilwaukee. Participants are evaluated through pre and post surveys, peer to peer evaluations, performances and completion of projects. All participants are required to complete at least 5-10 hours of community service during each session to encourage responsible citizenship.

Through the 2011 Urban Arts Program, we served 75 youth from January to November between the ages of 14-19 years old who completed 194 hours of arts instrauction and 390 hours of community service through our Urban Arts Program.
